A Day in the Life of What I Eat
Updated: Jul 26
A Typical Day of Eating for Me at 76
People often ask me what I eat in a day, so I thought I’d share a sample of how I typically eat while following my 80/20 Diet Plan.
The meals below represent the “80%” part of my plan—the foods that nourish my body with protein, fiber, healthy fats, and plenty of nutrients. As for the other 20%? I enjoy it without guilt or apology. That might be a dessert, a glass of wine with dinner, or an occasional martini. I believe healthy eating should be enjoyable and sustainable.
On most weekdays, breakfast is oatmeal with added protein, Greek yogurt, and fruit. My 80/20 diet On weekends, I like to change things up. One of my favorite breakfasts is the Blueberry Protein Pancake recipe you’ll find below. For an extra 7 g of protein, I always top with an egg. Delicious!
Every afternoon, I enjoy a sweet treat with my Nespresso coffee like the Almond Bark below. Over the years, I’ve learned not to add sugar to my drinks, and I don’t use artificial sweeteners or artificial ingredients. Instead, I focus on building habits that I can maintain for life.
My relationship with food and my body wasn’t always this positive. When I was younger, I was constantly critical of my body and rarely satisfied with how I looked. I never felt thin enough. I yo-yo dieted, starved, and binged throughout much of my younger life. My sister struggled with anorexia, and although we were surrounded by food—our parents owned a grocery store and later a restaurant—all I can remember is feeling hungry.
Today, in my 70s, I no longer strive to have a thin body. I appreciate my strong body for everything it allows me to do, and I can honestly say that I love the body I’m in.
These habits have helped me reach 76 feeling strong, energetic, and confident. I’ve learned a great deal throughout my journey, and one of my greatest joys is sharing those lessons with other women.
My hope is that these recipes and ideas inspire you to find an approach to eating that nourishes your body and feels enjoyable, realistic, and sustainable for you, too.
